Champions League Part II
Barcelona 1 - Liverpool 2 (Champions League, Feb. 21, 2007) Deco gave Barca an early lead getting on the end of a cross from Gianluca Zambrotta. Shocking goalkeeping from Victor Valdes was the main factor behind Craig Bellamy equalizer for Liverpool moments before half-time. (Bellamy celebrated his goal by imitating a golf swing.) John Arne Riise got the winner for Liverpool following yet more poor defending from Barca, in particular Marquez. A quite sensational result for the Reds.
See post match interviews with Bellamy and Reina.
Porto 1 - Chelsea 1 (Champions League, Feb. 21, 2007) With ten minutes played Porto took the lead through a fierce drive from Raul Meireles. Substitute Arjen Robben (on for the injured John Terry) set up Shevchenko for the equalizer. Just before half-time Ricardo Quaresma was desperately unlucky with a great effort that hit the bar.
Inter Milan 2 - Valencia 2 (Champions League, Feb. 21, 2007) Esteban Cambiasso headed Inter into a 1-0 lead. David Villa levelled things up with a stunning free-kick which he bent round the wall. With fifteen minutes remaining Maicon linked up with Julio Cruz to put Inter ahead. Another long range strike, this time from David Silva, meant Valencia must now be slight favourites to progress.
Roma 0 - Lyon 0 (Champions League, Feb. 21, 2007) Referee Mike Riley gave out eleven yellow cards equalling a Champions League record.
