Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Liverpool: Match report, player ratings, fan reaction & more

Match report

A pulsating 90 minutes of action on Saturday evening ultimately culminated in Tottenham Hotspur, somehow, getting the better of Liverpool.

This only came, though, owing to the latest of late own goals.

Visitors Liverpool finished out the day’s action in north London with just nine men on the pitch, after seeing both Curtis Jones and substitute Diogo Jota dismissed.

Not only that, but it was Spurs who opened the scoring in proceedings, upon Son Heung-min slotting home from a Richarlison pull-back.

Despite seeing what looked a completely legitimate goal of their own chalked off by VAR, though, Liverpool simply refused to lie down and accept defeat.

In turn, Cody Gakpo levelled things up on the stroke of the interval, courtesy of a fine finish on the spin:

From here, it looked as though the nine-man visitors had done enough to earn a share of the spoils, showcasing nothing short of remarkable resilience to hold Tottenham at bay.

With just seconds remaining, however, disaster struck.

After Pedro Porro drilled a cross across the face of goal, Joel Matip got his attempted clearance all wrong, drilling beyond Alisson and into the top corner of his own net.
