Two giants of German football will meet at the BayArena this weekend when Bayer Leverkusen play hosts Bayern Munich with the home side just about in the top half of the table as the champions sit second.
Bayern are trailing Borussia Dortmund in the league by just one point, as they hammered Koln 6-1 on Saturday to jump above the champions before their game at the BayArena.
A victory would send Julian Nagelsmann’s men right back to the summit of the Bundesliga, however, and this would come just in time for their crucial battle at the Allianz Arena after the international break.
Bayern smashed Augsburg 5-3 in the last outing to now make it four wins in a row since their 3-2 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach. They’ve beaten Union Berlin, Stuttgart, Paris Saint-Germain and Augsburg in this time by scoring 12 goals.
Leverkusen eased past Ferencvaros in the Europa League in midweek after beating them 2-0 in Hungary to set up a tie with Union Saint-Gilloise who actually just knocked out Union Berlin.
Xabi Alonso’s side now sit ninth and behind Eintracht Frankfurt by six points, although a win here would seriously ignite their hopes of a spot in Europe for next season.
