Mainz are up into the top half of the table after their best run of form this season sees them on a three-game winning run ahead of opening their doors to Hoffenheim who sit right down in 16th after a recent struggle.
Barely any side across Europe has been as poor as Hoffenheim since the World Cup ended in December. Now, after losing to Borussia Dortmund at home last weekend, the club come into this game off the back of six losses in a row.
Combine this with a draw against Stuttgart and a loss to Union Berlin in the club’s returning game and it means Hoffenheim have not won a game since the World Cup and have picked up just one point.
Mainz, however, are one of the country’s most in-form sides since losing to Union Berlin at the start of February, with Bo Svensson’s side now winning their past three games by scoring 10 goals and letting in just three.
Augsburg, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach all fell to a defeat to Mainz in this time and the club are up into eighth now.
