Match preview

Following last Wednesday’s goalless draw at Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium, this tie is firmly in the balance.

First leg hosts Qarabağ probably shaded it in Bakı, but could not find the breakthrough, with Viktoria Plzeň goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk on top form.

So, it’s winner takes all in the Czech Republic.

Viktoria Plzeň claimed their first Czech title since 2018 last season, ending Slavia Prague’s mini-period of dominance.

In Europe, they’ve qualified for seven UEFA group stages, including three in this competition, although their most recent was in the Champions League in 2018.

Now, following that stalemate in Azerbaijan, Viktoria Plzeň will be confident of winning back at home.

Qarabağ meantime have lifted eight of the last nine Azerbaijani Premier League titles.

As a result, the Horseman are familiar faces on the continent, reaching a group stage every season since their first in 2014.

Gurban Gurbanov’s team have already seen off Lech Poznań, FC Zürich and Ferencváros in this season’s run, meaning they’ve now won 19 of their last 22 qualification ties.

However, if Qarabağ are to qualify for the Champions for just the second time, previously doing so in 2017, they’ll need to win the away leg.

Will the home fans be celebrating at Doosan Arena?
