Match preview

A Bristol City outfit brimming with confidence on the back of a timely return to winning ways are set to act as hosts in a Championship clash at Ashton Gate on Saturday, December 17th.

This comes as the Robins prepare to go head to head with struggling Stoke City.

Bristol headed into last month’s World Cup break in the midst of an alarming fall down the table in England’s 2nd tier.

This came owing to a run of no wins from six, a stretch which even included an exit from the League Cup at the hands of League One Lincoln City.

And when all was said and done, the Robins, to their credit, stepped up to the plate, en route to a 3-1 triumph at Rotherham.

After Wes Harding’s early own goal was cancelled out by Chiedozie Ogbene, Joe Williams’ effort on the half-hour mark put the visitors back in front at the New York Stadium, before Cameron Pring made sure that all three points would be heading back to Bristol with a third a little over 15 minutes from time.

Safe to say, then, that Saturday’s hosts will likely be confident in their chances of making it two wins on the bounce come the full-time whistle at Ashton Gate.

This comes with their upcoming opponents having endured an altogether less fruitful post-international break return to action last time out.

Stoke, after dealing the club’s survival hopes a timely boost courtesy of two wins from three early last month, slipped to defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion in the their final November fixture.

And this, in turn, was followed by an altogether disappointing stalemate last weekend.

After recovering from a goal down to take the lead early in a meeting with fellow relegation candidates Cardiff City, the Potters were eventually forced to make do with a share of the spoils, owing to Callum Robinson’s decisive equaliser just shy of the hour mark.

Stoke, as a result, sit 19th in the Championship table, a point adrift of their upcoming hosts, and just two clear of the bottom three.

We at 101 therefore envision the situation worsening ever further for Alex Neil’s side this weekend, backing Bristol to ultimately emerge on the right side of the scoreline come the full-time whistle at Ashton Gate.
