Match preview

Following last Thursday’s victory at Stadion Wankdorf, it’s Anderlecht who are firmly in the catbird seat of this intriguing tie.

Hannes Delcroix scored the only goal in Bern as the Belgian club left with a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

Will that narrow advantage prove decisive back at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium?

Anderlecht boast an illustrious history, lifting five major European trophies, featuring in 20 modern-day group stages, 13 of which have come in the Champions League.

However, since qualifying for the Europa League group phase in 2018, the Purple and Whites had only featured on the continent once, falling to Vitesse in last season’s play-offs.

BSC Young Boys meantime came into this tie as slight favourites, although that isn’t the case now.

They won four successive Swiss Super League titles, a streak that was ended by Zürich last season.

On the continent, Young Boys have qualified for nine group stages since their first in 2010, including the Champions League last season, last failing to appear in one way back in 2015.

So, if Raphaël Wicky’s team do fail to turn this tie around, it would be a massive failure.

Who will be celebrating victory in Brussels?
