Erik ten Hag details Rashford contract talks as Man United remain desperate to keep star forward

Dutch tactician Erik ten Hag has endeared himself to Manchester United supporters in his first season at Old Trafford as the former AFC Ajax boss has already made strides in the technical area as the Red Devils appear to be a side reborn of late and look capable of securing a top-four finish.

One of the main beneficiaries of Ten Hag’s influence taking hold in the northwest of England has been England star forward Marcus Rashford after the United academy product has found a rich vein of form in front of goal, particularly after the 2022 World Cup, and currently sits on 17 goals across all competitions during the current 2022-23 campaign, including 9 Premier League goals.

But there has been a measure of uncertainty surrounding the future of the Manchester native due to the fact that his current terms with the club are due to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season, with suggestions earlier this season leading to many speculating that his future could lay elsewhere, with French giants Paris Saint-Germain rumored to be a possible destination.

For Ten Hag, however, Rashford is a priority for the club and United would be the best possible place for him as the club remains locked in negotiations over his future.

“It’s confidential — but I think Marcus understands Manchester United is his club. Marcus knows that in this team he’s playing his best football. We need him”

With the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo after his contract was terminated by mutual consent before the World Cup which eventually saw the all-time top scorer in men’s football join Saudi Arabian outfit Al Nassr, keeping Rashford on the books is an unquestionable priority for United, especially after summer signing Antony has struggled to adapt after joining up with Ten Hag at the club, and no indication that Anthony Martial may stay past the season.
