Match preview

Two sides in the midst of fine recent spells of form are set to lock horns in a Championship clash at the Riverside Stadium on Tuesday, March 14th.

The matchup in question will see Middlesbrough act as hosts, in a meeting with Stoke City.

Beginning with the former, Middlesbrough, of course, continue to prove themselves week after week as the story of the season to date in England’s 2nd tier.

After spending the early months of the campaign battling it out at the foot of the table, under the watch of transformative boss Michael Carrick, the Yorkshire club have since surged to the thick of the promotion picture.

This includes this past weekend, when Championship top scorer Chuba Akpom was on target once more, en route to a 3-1 downing of Swansea City.

Coupled with Sheffield United’s third defeat in five, Carrick and co, remarkably, now find themselves just four points adrift of an automatic promotion berth.

Making it three wins on the spin later this evening, however, will prove no easy task for Boro.

This comes with upcoming opponents Stoke City having themselves burst into life over the course of the last few weeks.

En route to soaring clear of the bottom three, the Potters have notched wins in three of their last four, and four of six.

It is their results over the course of the last fortnight, though, which have really seen Alex Neil’s men begin to turn heads.

After remarkably putting five past Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, Stoke followed up by getting the better of a Blackburn outfit fresh off five successive victories at the weekend.

After Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Ki-Jana Hoever’s double put the Potters two goals to the good at the Bet365 Stadium, a further strike on the part of Tyrese Campbell ensured that Blackburn’s late comeback efforts proved to be in vain.

Neil and co, in turn, will no doubt make the trip to the Riverside Stadium with sights firmly set on another upset, amid ongoing efforts to kick on towards mid-table.

We at 101, however, envision such efforts coming up just short, backing hosts Middlesbrough to ultimately emerge on the right side of the result.
