The return of the Premier League, of course, also brings with it the return of Fantasy Premier League.

One of the most important aspects of FPL is picking your captain each week. Whoever you select as your captain with earn double their standard score, or triple it if you chose to play your triple captain chip, which you can do once per season.

But deciding on your captain each week can be a very tough decision that can make or break your game week.

With this in mind, 101GreatGoals will be providing you with an insight into the best captain picks for every game week this season.

Best FPL captains gameweek 1

Mohamed Salah vs Fulham (13.0)

The first option you should consider as an FPL captain this week is Mohamed Salah.

Salah is the most expensive player on the game once again, but it is with good reason.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are as strong as ever and have a fairly easy opening game vs Fulham. The Cottagers have become something of a yo-yo side and are amongst the favourites to be relegated again in 2022/23.

Fulham also have a dismal record against the Reds, winning just one of the last nine meetings between the two sides. As a result, some form of Salah haul is expected in gameweek 1.

Harry Kane vs Southampton (11.0)

Perhaps your best captain choice in gameweek one comes in the form of Harry Kane.

Kane’s often starts campaigns slowly, but he has been in superb form since Antonio Conte took the reins in north London.

Spurs, meanwhile, were able to clinch a top-four spot despite their woeful start to 2021/22 under Nuno Espirito Santo and are expected to continue their new-found form into the upcoming campaign.

Southampton, on the other hand, are likely to be at the bottom end of the table come the summer.

Most importantly, though, Kane’s record against the Saints is sensational. He has scored 11 goals vs Ralph Hassenhutl’s side – he has only netted more vs Arsenal, Everton and Leicester.

The forward has also provided eight assists vs Southampton, which is the most he has managed against any team during his career.

Erling Haaland vs West Ham (11.0)

The final player you should consider captaining in GW1 is Erling Haaland.

Haaland is perhaps the riskiest option of the three due to him just arriving in England, but if you are looking for a good differential captain pick, he is your man.

Haaland failed to score vs Liverpool in the Community Shield, but he did find himself in great positions on a number of occasions, which will no doubt eventually lead to him bagging plenty of goals.

Manchester City as a squad, meanwhile, have not lost a Premier League game to West Ham since all the way back in September of 2015, suggesting another win is very likely this weekend.
