Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the latest footballer to appear on the front cover of GQ Magazine. GQ is one of the leading fashion magazines in the world.
The Everton striker is well known for his interest in fashion and was pictured with Everton teammate Tom Davies at the New York fashion week back in February of 2021. Following that event, Calvert-Lewin’s form has fallen off a cliff.
The striker had scored 13 league goals during 2021/22 before he attended New York fashion week, but netted just three in the remainder of that season and has since seriously struggled for form and fitness in 2021/22 as well.
This begs the question, do activities outside of football impact a player’s form? Well, as Calvert-Lewin is the latest GQ cover star, 101 have decided to take a look back at some of the other footballers to feature on GQ’s front cover and assess how their form was impacted.
To do, this we will take a look at how each player performed in the 10 games prior to their front cover being released and then in the 10 games after.

Mohamed Salah (GQ cover released January 11th, 2022)
Mohamed Salah’s GQ cover came out on the 11th of January. In the ten games prior to this date, Salah was in solid form.
In the 10 games post-cover, however, Salah found the net just three times and provided just two assists.
Raheem Sterling (GQ cover released July 3rd, 2019)
Unlike Salah, Sterling’s form was not impacted by his GQ appearance. The winger appeared on the front cover on July 3rd, 2019.
In the 10 games after that, Sterling would score nine and assist one. Meanwhile, his 10 previous matches had seen him score six and assist two across all competitions.
Marcus Rashford (GQ cover released 27th November, 2020)
Despite Marcus Rashford’s current struggles, his appearance in GQ did not appear to have much of an impact on him.
In the 10 games after being in GQ, the Manchester United man scored six goals and provided three assists, compared to his six goals and five assists in his previous 10 outings.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (GQ cover released 9th March, 2021)
After appearing in GQ, AC Milan and Sweden forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored just twice in his following 10 outings.
Before his appearance, meanwhile, the hitman had netted five in 10. A sign Ibra was impacted by his extracurricular activities?
