Match preview

Having won on the road in Chișinău, Partizan Belgrade are in pole position to progress through this tie.

Last Thursday’s first leg was a rather low-key affair, played behind-closed-doors due to national security concerns in Moldova.

The only goal at Zimbru Stadium was scored by Ricardo Gomes on the cusp of half time, with Partizan holding on for the victory, despite having Igor Vujačić sent off just after the interval.

The Serbian giants beat Sparta Prague at this stage 12 months ago, before being demolished 8-3 on aggregate by Feyenoord in the last 16.

Given that Partizan have only lost three of their last 27 European home matches, Gordan Petrić’s side are overwhelming favourites to advance now.

As for FC Sheriff, they were eliminated in this round of the Europa League last season, beaten by Braga on penalties.

Sheriff have drawn both previous visits to Serbia 1-1, a result that would suit the home side nicely at Partizan Stadium.

Partizan Belgrade team news

As mentioned, Igor Vujačić’s red card in the first leg means he is suspended.

19 year old Mihajlo Ilić, who came off the bench in Chișinău, is likely to start at centre-back alongside Svetozar Marković this time.

Ricardo Gomes’ winner a week ago took his tally to 16 goals in UEFA competition since the start of last season, a phenomenal return.

Sheriff Tiraspol team news

The away side’s top-scorer so far this season is Rasheed Akanbi with ten, four of which have come in Europe.

Maksym Koval will continue in goal, having usurped Dumitru Celeadnic as the number one earlier this season.

Captain Amine Talal was taken off injured in the first leg so, if he’s not fit, Eugeniu Gliga could come in out-wide.
