Well, that’s it, then. Bayern Munich has once again been crowned Bundesliga champion after a brilliant final day of action in the top flight of German football

It took longer than all Bayern supporters would have wanted across what has been a frustrating season in Bavaria. Between the baffling sacking of Julian Nagelsmann, the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, and the club’s failure to truly replace former head act Robert Lewandowski, the club’s direction this season was far from certain after they were ousted from both the Champions League and DFB-Pokal under Tuchel’s command.

To compound the season, Bayern had to bank on rivals Borussia Dortmund failing to secure a win against 1.FSV Mainz 05 at the Westfalenstadion in front of home support longing for a first league title in a decade, while Bayern themselves needed a win over 1.FC Köln in a tricky away tie along the Rhine.

Dortmund could only manage a late 2-2 draw, while Jamal Musiala bagged a late match-winner to seal all three points, which put Bayern on top of the table on goal difference.

Included in Tuchel’s XI on the day was Thomas Müller; one of the undeniable faces of Bayern supremacy in the last fifteen years. With today’s win, Müller set a new record for Bundesliga titles after securing his 12th winner’s medal across a career spanning fifteen seasons.

It is a supreme achievement for a player who has not only played a vital role in shaping the destiny of the club, but who has also helped terraform the footballing landscape on a tactical level.

Truly, Thomas Müller will go down in history as a genuine club legend.
