Antonio Conte could be set for further frustrations in the English capital after reports have confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur FC has cooled their interest in 23-year-old Spanish right-back Pedro Porro.

A former academy asset at Premier League rivals Manchester City, Porro has developed well on the books of Portuguese giants Sporting CP during an initial two-year loan spell in Lisbon before his move became official this summer.

Since then, the Don Benito native has starred for the club on the domestic front as well as in the Champions League during the group stage, where outings against Tottenham had initially convinced the club that the Spanish international would be an ideal recruitment candidate at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That interest is now said to be off the table according to Sky Sports, however, citing that Porro’s €43m (£40m) release clause is deemed too high for the club, with Tottenham balking at the fee despite knowing full well where SCP stood in terms of wanting the full valuation of the release clause met if they were to allow Porro to return to England.

At current, Conte can rely (and that term is being used liberally) on Emerson Royale, Matt Doherty, and Djed Spence when it comes to his options at right-back, with none of the three currently available players deemed suitable enough in terms of performance.

This once again calls into question why the club viewed a move for Spence as credible in the summer, while neither Royale nor Doherty are nearly consistent enough to help push the needle on the pitch, with speculation on Conte’s future in the capital growing by the minute.
