Match preview

A Rotherham United outfit desperate for a return to winning ways will act as hosts, in a Championship meeting with Coventry City on Saturday, February 18th.

The Millers, for their part, have endured an altogether tough time of things of late.

After looking as though they had turned a corner courtesy of a remarkable four-goal drubbing of Blackburn Rovers this time last month, fans of Matt Taylor’s troops were no doubt hopeful of their side kicking on towards the comfort of mid-table.

Safe to say, however, that as much has since failed to come to pass.

The most recent, in midweek, saw Lee Peltier’s first-half opener provide hope of a bounce-back result, in a trip to the Madejski to face Reading.

Andy Carroll’s equaliser on the other side of the interval, though, was followed by what proved to be a last-minute Tyrese Fornah winner, en route to a 2-1 defeat for the Millers.

Owing to Cardiff City’s ensuing downing of Reading on Friday, Rotherham, as a result, find themselves just a solitary spot clear of the Championship’s relegation zone.

And hopeful of plunging Taylor and co. into further crisis at the New York Stadium on Saturday will be a Coventry City outfit brimming with confidence.

The Sky Blues, on the back of a concerning stretch of form either side of the new year, have since managed to steady the ship in impressive fashion.

Since the end of January, Coventry have notched two wins and a draw from their last four outings.

The club’s solitary defeat across this stretch came in narrow fashion at West Brom, followed in turn by a credible share of the spoils against promotion-chasing Luton Town.

Last time out, a solitary strike on the part of Viktor Gyokeres then proved enough to guide Mark Robins’ men beyond another of the playoff hopefuls, in the form of Millwall.

Hitman Gyokeres has now found the net on 13 occasions in England’s 2nd tier this season, good enough for 2nd in the Golden Boot race.

Coventry, as a result, will head into Saturday’s action boasting understandable favourite status.

Do not be surprised, however, if Rotherham’s solid recent home form proves enough to see the hosts to a share of the spoils at the New York Stadium.
