Can Sevilla close the gap on leaders Real Madrid?
Last Sunday, Julen Lopetegui’s side enjoyed a momentous victory in El Gran Derbi, beating fierce rivals Real Betis 2-1.
This means los Nervionenses are now unbeaten in 12 La Liga games but, having drawn five of these, remain six points behind Real Madrid.
The top two still have to play each other in Andalucía in mid-April so Sevilla need to make sure that six-point gap doesn’t widen any further.
Can los Hispalenses halve the gap at the top before Real Madrid face Real Sociedad on Saturday night?
Deportivo Alavés meanwhile are scrapping for their lives down at the wrong end of the table.
El Glorioso drew 2-2 with ten-man Getafe in Madrid last weekend with Gonzalo Escalante and then Édgar Méndez both on target.
However, given that Getafe had a man sent off just 32 minutes into the match, leaving Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Pérez with a point isn’t a great result.
Since José Luis Mendilibar took over as Head Coach, Alavés have only won one of eight matches so remain in the drop zone, four points from safety.
They’ll be looking to crank up the pressure on Cádiz, Granada and Mallorca before those teams play across the weekend.
Who will win this crucial clash at Mendizorrotza?

After last weekend’s decent showing, José Luis Mendilibar won’t change things too much.
The bizarre part of Alavés’ 2-2 draw is that Joselu wasn’t one of the scorers, given that he’s netted 21 of their 21 La Liga goals this season.
Luis Rioja and Édgar Méndez, who did net in that one, will continue to support their striker.
Elsewhere, Víctor Laguardia will continue to be partnered by Florian Lejeune at centre-back, chosen over Matt Miazga.
Sevilla team news

Sevilla’s squad meanwhile is stretched as they continue to fight in both La Liga and the Europa League.
Anthony Martial scored against GNK Dinamo but picked up an injury soon after and is still out.
Papu Gómez also hobbled off against Real Betis in the derby, so joins Martial, Suso and Érik Lamela in the treatment room.
In better news, Jules Koundé and Lucas Ocampos are both back from one-match suspensions picked up against Espanyol.
Despite the absentees, Julen Lopetegui does have good options and his team should be too strong in this one.
