The home side has taken to life back in the Championship like a duck to water, with two wins, two draws and just one defeat in five outings so far. Last time out they showed their metal going to Stoke and coming away with a 1-0 in a fantastic away performance. Alex Neil can have little to complain about with his team giving everything in all the games they have played this campaign.
However, the need for a bigger squad is a pressing matter for the Black Cats as they have very little to come off the bench when they need it and no cover for star strikers Ellis Simms and Ross Stewart. If either were to get injured, the Mackems would be left well short up front, with both notching three times each already this season.
This weekend’s opponents (and Alex Neil’s former side) Norwich on the other hand have not had the start they would have hoped for, following relegation from the top flight back in May, but things seem to be improving. While they failed to win in their first three, they have recorded two wins on the bounce over Huddersfield and Millwall, so head to the Stadium of Light looking to carry on that good run.
Canaries fans will be hoping that new signings Gabriel Sara and Marcelino Núñez (both signed from South American leagues) can come to the fore very soon as both players signed for decent fees this summer. Dean Smith also needs to win the trust of his fanbase after a dismal end to last year. The expectation as ever will be promotion back to the Premier League, but time will tell if he is the man to deliver.
