Match preview

Stockport County are finally back in League Two action after three weeks away from league games because of postponed fixtures as the Hatters welcome Crewe Alexandra to Edgeley Park on Boxing Day with aims of jumping into the top half of the table.

Stockport had a terrible start to the season, despite being the favourites to win the league before it begun. Now, they are in 13th after a solid run of form, while the Hatters have also beaten Charlton Athletic in the FA Cup in December to move into the third round against Walsall.

The club last played in League Two back on December 3rd, as they hammered Hartlepool United 5-0 away from home. What’s more, with the recent postponed games, Stockport come into this game with a game in hand on some of those above them, meaning if they can secure a victory in this game and that extra game to play, they may be in the top half fairly soon.

As for Crewe, they have also not played since the beginning of the month because of postponed games. On the other hand, they lost to Newport County 2-1 at the Mornflake Stadium. Crewe are down in 17th ahead of this one and three points behind County. Moreover, the club have a game in hand to play and even more games to play over teams like Sutton United and Tranmere Rovers above them.

Stockport have sold out this game on Boxing Day, and Edgeley Park is expected to be bouncing on the 26th.
