Türkiye’s World Cup 2022 hopes were massively derailed by Latvia, so can they avoid a repeat here?

However, three days later, the Crescent-Stars were beaten 2-0 by the group’s top-seeds Croatia in Bursa.
With Croatia favourites to top the section, it’s likely to be a battle between Wales and Türkiye for second, and those two will go head-to-head in Samsun this forthcoming Monday.
Latvia meantime have played just one Euro 2024 qualifier so far, but this saw them beaten 1-0 in Cardiff.
Dainis Kazakevičs’ side did win promotion from the Nations League’s bottom-tier last year but, in terms of qualifiers, Latvia have won just three of their last 30.
So, despite finding Latvia a tough nut to crack two years ago, Türkiye should be too strong at Skonto stadions.

Vladislavs Gutkovskis and Roberts Uldriķis are likely to lead Latvia’s attack, having scored 11 and seven international goals respectively.

Strikers Cenk Tosun and Enes Ünal are both injured, meaning Kenan Karaman could lead the attack, flanked by Cengiz Ünder and Kerem Aktürkoğlu.
Hakan Çalhanoğlu will win his 77th cap, hoping to overtake Tuncay Şanlı, Mehmet Topal and Hamit Altıntop by the end of the year, thereby moving into eighth on the all-time Turkish list.
Atlético Madrid-bounce Çağlar Söyüncü will partner Merih Demiral at centre-back.
