Match preview

Wimbledon will be aiming to stay in the top half of the table when they meet with Newport County as the Dons head into this game off the back of a loss to Plymouth Argyle in the Football League Trophy as Newport lost to Doncaster Rovers.

Wimbledon were unfortunate not to get the win against Plymouth in the EFL Trophy, having forfeited a 3-0 lead to draw the game 3-0. The scenes were quite incredible, as Sam Cosgrove netted a second half hat-trick after Kyle Hudlin scored twice in the first half along with a goal from Ayoub Assal.

Back in the league, the London side managed to draw 0-0 with Swindon Town in the last game, while also beating Grimsby Town in League Two in December as well. It now keeps Wimbledon in the top half of the table and in 12th with eight wins and seven loss on the board.

As for Newport, they lost 1-0 to Doncaster Rovers at Rodney Parade last time out, eight days after beating Crewe Alexandra. Newport are still sitting in 18th in the table with just six victories in the league so far. Worse yet, they are one of the lowest-scoring sides in the league with 20 goals let in and 24 goals conceded.
