Match preview

A West Bromwich Albion outfit in the midst of a timely resurgence will be hopeful of making it three wins on the spin, when they welcome Stoke City to The Hawthorns for a Championship showdown on Saturday, November 12th.

The Baggies, all told, have of course endured a campaign to forget to date.

Owing to a paltry two wins from the club’s opening 17 outings, the once-Premier League regulars, until recently, were condemned to a spot at the foot of England’s 2nd tier.

As alluded to above, though, over the course of the last week, West Brom, at long last, have managed to string together an encouraging stretch of form.

And this was followed by the same result last time out, doubling the Baggies’ win tally for the term in the space of just five days.

This triumph proved even more impressive, in coming at the expense of promotion-chasing Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

Saturday’s hosts, in turn, have climbed up to 22nd in the table, in the knowledge that another victory next time out could well guide them out of the bottom three.

Such a result, though, will not come easy up against a Stoke City outfit enjoying an upturn in fortunes of their own of late.

The Potters too found themselves dragged into the relegation dogfight last month, owing to a run of four defeats from five.

The last couple of weeks, though, have seen Stoke’s stars pull together in timely fashion under the watch of boss Alex Neil.

Two wins from three since the turn of the month have guided the Midlands outfit a full five points clear of the drop zone, to the heights of 15th.

The most recent, meanwhile, came in altogether impressive fashion, in midweek.

After welcoming high-flying Luton Town to the Bet365 Stadium, Nick Powell’s early opener was added to by a Tom Lockyer own goal inside the opening quarter of an hour, en route to an eventual 2-0 Baggies triumph.

We at 101, in turn, view Saturday’s imminent Hawthorns clash as one of the more difficult to call of the upcoming round of Championship fixtures.

Backing an eventual stalemate between the two sides, as a result, looks a solid bet.
