Match Preview
12th will meet with 13th in Ligue 1 this weekend with Clermont Foot sitting one point ahead of Toulouse ahead of a clash at the Gabriel Montpied Stadium this Sunday between two sides languishing in mid-table.
Not much was expected of Clermont Foot this season but they have already started to ease fears of another lengthy relegation battle. In what was the club’s first Ligue 1 season, they finished above the drop zone by just four points in the end. Now, however, they’ve already created a two-point gap and now sit with a chance to jump as high as sixth with a win.
Clermont Foot did lose their third game of the Ligue 1 season in midweek, however, as Pape Gueye scored the game’s only goal in a win for the unbeaten Marseille. It is now a two-game losing run for the club with them also losing to Lorient where Muhammed Cham Saracevic scored a goal in the second half to bring the game to 2-1. Neto Borges was sent off in that game and can now return to the squad here.
Toulouse are, however, coming off the back of a 3-0 hammering to the unstoppable Paris Saint-Germain. Worse yet, this now means they’ve lost two in a row as well with Nantes beating them 3-1 last weekend, where an opening goal from Zakaria Aboukhlal saw Toulouse initially take the lead.
Toulouse’s only win so far has come in an away trip to Troyes, with Rafael Ratao and Rhys Healey scoring a goal each in a 3-0 win, as an own goal also helped out on the scoreline. Now, up against a Clermont Foot side who have shown they can win and also get demolished, this game could bring a few goals to the show.
