Monday’s international friendlies: Greece vs Lithuania, North Macedonia vs Faroe Islands & Chile vs Paraguay.

Greece vs Lithuania

[TIP_OF_THE_DAY]

After making a winning start to Euro 2024 qualifying, will Greece’s positivity continue in this friendly?

On Friday night, goals from Georgios Masouras, Manolis Siopis and Anastasios Bakasetas saw them easily beat Gibraltar 3-0 at Estádio Algarve.

In 2022, Greece finally secured promotion to Nations League B, winning five of their six matches.

However, a top two finish in their qualification group will be a big ask for Gus Poyet’s team, given that France, Netherlands and Ireland complete the section.

In June, they’ll face Ireland in Athens and France in Paris, so will be hoping for a positive result here to keep spirits high.

Edgaras Jankauskas’ side are set to be that group’s whipping boys, having now failed to win any of their last ten matches, including friendlies.

A home win seems likely at Agia Sophia Stadium.

North Macedonia vs Faroe Islands

[TIP_OF_THE_DAY]

Will North Macedonia make home advantage count in this international friendly?

On Thursday night, Blagoja Milevski’s side made a winning start to their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, beating Malta 2-1.

Elif Elmas and Darko Churlinov on target in Skopje.

Given that England, Italy and Ukraine complete the Group C line-up, tougher test await the Lynxes.

Faroe Islands meanwhile held Moldova to a 1-1 draw in Chișinău, taking the lead through Mads Boe Mikkelsen, only to concede a penalty three minutes from time.

Håkan Ericson’s side have only won one away game since September 2020, this a friendly in Liechtenstein, so a home victory seems likely at Toše Proeski Arena.

Chile vs Paraguay

[TIP_OF_THE_DAY]

Two South American sides go head-to-head in Santiago.

Chile have now failed to qualify for back-to-back World Cups, despite winning successive Copa América just before.

With Eduardo Berizzo at the helm, la Roja are determined to qualify for 2026 and, with CONMEBOL now given six guaranteed spots, they should be confident of achieving this.

Paraguay are exactly the size of nation who will really benefit from the expanded World Cup, targeting at least seventh, which is the inter-confederation play-off place.

Los Guaraníes begin their road to 2026 in September, hosting Peru, while Chile will visit Uruguay.

Who will look stronger in this friendly at Estadio Monumental David Arellano?
