Match preview

It’s Coupe de France Final day in Paris!

OGC Nice come into this final as favourites, aiming to lift major silverware for the first time since last winning this competition 25 years ago.

To get here, Christophe Galtier’s side have enjoyed memorable victories, none more so than that penalty shootout triumph over PSG in Paris in the last 16.

They then hammered Derby de la Mediterranée rivals Marseille 4-1 in the quarter-finals, before edging out minnows Versailles 2-0 in the semis.

Head Coach Galtier, famously, led Lille to last season’s Ligue 1 title, and is on the verge of another amazing achievement.

FC Nantes meanwhile have won 15 major honours in their history, including eight top division titles.

However, the last of this silverware came in 2001 when les Canaris clinched Ligue 1 and added the Trophée des Champions later that year.

Nantes beat AS Vitré, Brest and Bastia in earlier rounds of this season’s Coupe, before edging out Monaco on penalties in the semi-final.

This, as one might imagine, sparked wild celebrations at Stade de la Beaujoire.

Amazingly, la Maison Jaune were almost relegated 12 months ago, edging out Toulouse on away goals in last year’s relegation play-off.

Now though, they’re ninth and Antoine Kombouaré will lead them out at their ninth Coupe de France Final.

Nice meanwhile are four places and nine points better off in fifth, on course to qualify for Europe, regardless of this match.

Les Aiglons are certainly ambitious and will hope this final can kick-start a new era of success in their history.

Who will be celebrating with the trophy following this eagerly anticipated occasion at Stade de France?

Nice team news

Christophe Galtier has some key decisions to make ahead of this huge game.

Walter Benítez is the regular number one, having started 34 Ligue 1 games, but Marcin Bułka has started all four Coupe de France games.

The Pole was the hero in the round of 16, saving two penalties against parent-club PSG, so could continue between the sticks.

Captain Dante, who won nine major honours during his time with Bayern Munich, will continue alongside the highly-rated Jean-Clair Todibo at the back.

Midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is a major doubt having missed five of the last six matches with a calf injury.

Out-wide, Justin Kluivert and Hicham Boudaoui could keep their places, chosen over Calvin Stengs who joined for big money from AZ last summer.

Semi-final scorer Kasper Dolberg will continue to partner this season’s top-scorer Andy Delort in attack.

Wylan Cyprien meanwhile will be key to Nantes’ chances, looking to control midfield against the side who let him go.

Pedro Chirivella, once of Liverpool, and Samuel Moutoussamy will complete a formidable midfield trio.

Moses Simon will come into this final full of confidence with last weekend’s brace against Lens taking his tally to six for the season.

The Nigerian and Randal Kolo Muani, who is their top scorer with 13, will lead the attack.
