Stade Rennes are coming into their game against Reims at the Stade Auguste Delaune in third and with aims of taking over Lens in the race for the top five European places with Paris Saint-Germain running away with the league title with relative ease.
Rennes have had another excellent season so far and sit in third Ligue 1 after nine wins and just two losses in the league. At the same time, only PSG at the top of the table have scored more goals than them so far this season, and with 14 goals let in, just Lens, Marseille and the league leaders have let in fewer goals.
The third-placed Ligue 1 side played three games during the World Cup break, winning all three of them. This run started with a 4-3 victory against Celtic, before beating Feyenoord 2-1 and Brest 3-1 just this time last week.
Reims, however, are down in 11th right now and with a two-point gap between them and Clermont Foot in 10th. Reims managed to beat Sochaux and Charleroi 3-0 in two of their friendlies during the World Cup, before losing 2-1 to Lens just less than a week ago.
Reims have won only three goals so far in the league table, which is the fewest amount of wins inside the top 14. What’s more, they have scored the second-fewest goals in the top 14, netting just 16 goals – only Nice in ninth have bagged less.
