A long-time star member of the first-team setup at Spanish giants Barcelona is on the verge of taking his talents to MLS, to link up with former teammate and close friend Lionel Messi.
The player in question? Sergio Busquets.
It has of course long been common knowledge that midfield icon Busquets is primed to bring a close to the Barcelona chapter of his career this summer.
Ahead of the expiration of his current contract at the end of the month, the Spanish international, set to turn 35 next month, has come to the decision not to put pen to paper on fresh terms with Xavi Hernandez’s side.
Speculation, in turn, has long been rampant as to Busquets’ plans beyond the summer, with clubs from both Saudi Arabia and the United States keen on the services of one of football’s greatest-ever midfielders.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media on Sunday is anything to go by, then it is a club from the latter who appear to have won the race for the veteran’s signature.
His imminent arrival in Florida will see the 143-time capped international reunite with Lionel Messi, after the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner also penned a deal with David Beckham’s Inter earlier this month.
Not only that, but Jordi Alba, ahead of the expiration of his contract at the Camp Nou, is too widely understood to be closing on a move to Fort Lauderdale.
