Match preview

The race for the Supporters’ Shield couldn’t be tighter, so Philadelphia Union know this is must win.

Last time out, the Union’s five-game winning streak came to an end, drawing 0-0 with Atlanta United.

Andre Blake was the hero at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, making a string of remarkable saves.

The fact Philly have scored 68 goals this season has grabbed all the headlines, but this team’s success is built on strong foundations.

Having conceded just 22 goals so far, if they let in five or less in their remaining two matches, they’ll break the record for the fewest goals any team has allowed in an MLS regular-season.

More importantly, Jim Curtin’s team are targeting the Supporters’ Shield, currently level on points with LAFC.

So, will the Union avoid slipping up in Queen City?

Expansion club Charlotte FC meanwhile, just about, kept alive their play-off hopes with a remarkable comeback two weeks ago.

They were 2-0 down at Soldier Field against Chicago Fire, but three second half goals saw CLTFC leave Illinois with all the points.

Nuno Santos on target while Karol Świderski scored twice, the latter coming in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

This is the 12th time in MLS this season a team has won despite being 2+ goals down; the previous most in a single season was eight.

Christian Lattanzio’s team have now won back-to-back games, but are four points below the play-off places, so their top seven hopes are slim at best.

Will Philadelphia Union claim the win they desperately need at Banc of America Stadium?
