Belgian international Charles de Ketelaere will be looking to rehabilitate his career after struggling with Italian giants AC Milan after reaching a verbal agreement with Serie A top-six rivals Atalanta Bergamasca.

Football insider Fabrizio Romano, while citing Matteo Moretto, provided the latest update surrounding the creative midfielder after what was a frustrating debut season with Milan in the wake of his arrival from Belgian giants Club Brugge last summer.

De Ketelaere will head less than 30 miles northeast of Milan to Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo for the duration of the upcoming 2023-24 Serie A campaign, with La Dea also maintaining an option to purchase the player outright should he settle nicely under manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

The 22-year-old formerly highly-touted Club Brugge academy graduate had a sensational 2021-22 campaign in the Jupiler Pro League with Blauw-Zwart to the tune of 18 goals in all competitions but has fallen well short of expectations at San Siro.

As Milan has massively retooled their senior setup in the wake of Sando Tonali’s sale to Manchester United, there appears to be no room in the squad under Stefano Pioli after the arrivals of Christian Pulisic, Samuel Chukwueze, Yunus Musah, Tijjani Reijnders, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Noah Okafor, and Luka Romero.

De Ketelaere could certainly benefit from the move, however, with Gasperini owning a well-established track record of getting the best out of attacking talents in recent years.
