Newcastle signed the Sweden striker Alexander from Real Sociedad on a long-term deal understood to be worth about £60m.

The 22-year-old joined Real Sociedad from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 and went on to impress in Spain, catching the eye of Arsenal amongst other Premier League sides.

All told Isak made 132 appearances for Sociedad, scoring 44 and assisting eight whilst doing so and is now set to ply his trade with the Magpies.

Before that transfer was completed, though, it appears Manchester United also had some interest in Isak.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Man United came in with a bid, with Erik ten Hag trying to ‘lure him in’ with the future of Cristiano Ronaldo still looking incredibly up in the air with just two days left to go in the market.

But after lodging their interest in Isak, his agents told him to reject a move to Old Trafford and join Newcastle instead.

Will Isak play against Newcastle?

However, Isak may not be involved. As per the BBC: “Newcastle are still waiting for record-signing Alexander Isak to receive his work permit and it could “go down to the wire” as to whether he plays against Liverpool on Wednesday.”
