Match preview

FC Cincinnati start the weekend above the play-off line, but will they still be there come the conclusion of Decision Day on 9 October?

On Wednesday night, the Orange and Blue’s unbeaten streak continued, this time holding NYCFC to a 1-1 draw at Citi Field.

Cincinnati’s opener in Queens was a truly comical own goal but, as the cliché goes, they all count the same.

So, Pat Noonan’s team are now unbeaten in eight, only losing one of their last 15, although 11 of these matches have ended all square.

With just five games remaining, the Orange and Blue need victories if they’re to secure an invite to the post-season party for the first time ever.

Over in the Western Conference, San Jose Earthquakes have only made the play-offs in two of the last nine seasons, and that ratio will only worsen next month.

However, having only won two of their last nine, both of which have come at PayPal Park, the Quakes are second bottom of the west, 12 points below the play-off places with only six games to go.

So, a home victory at TQL Stadium is the most likely outcome.
