The high-flying Rennes will head on the road to the Stade de I’Aube this Sunday afternoon with last season’s second-highest goalscorers in Ligue 1 looking to jump right into the mixer of the early title race when they meet with Troyes.
Rennes were absolutely fantastic last season. The club managed to win 20 games in the league all year long, which only second-placed Marseille and title winners Paris Saint-Germain could better. What’s more, after scoring 82 goals from 38 Ligue 1 fixtures, only PSG scored more too, while their 40 goals conceded was only bettered by three other sides.
Rennes are also back in the win column right now after a 3-1 victory against Brest that came just days after losing 2-1 to Lens away from home. Joe Rodon managed to score his first goal for the club, before Martin Terrier and Desire Doue won the game late on with a goal each.
A win over Ajaccio two weeks back, a draw with Monaco just prior to this and a defeat to Lorient at home on the opening day does leave Rennes in sixth and already six points behind the fourth spot they finished in last season.
Troyes are up into 11th after a stunning win from behind against Monaco on the road, where Mama Balde, Yoann Salmier, Wilson Odobert and Florian Tardieu all scored a goal each in the win. It was just their second win of the season after losing to Lyon, Montpellier and Toulouse where they let in a combined 10 goals and scored three of their own. On the other hand, after a 3-1 victory against Angers, they do now sit with a two-game winning run where they netted seven of their own.
