Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen has taken to social media to showcase some of the death threats that he has received from Liverpool fans following his side’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night, warning that he has received 3-400 of them in recent hours.

The Danish defender impressed at the heart of the Palace defence, but the main point of contention came when he was on the receiving end of two Darwin Nunez headbutts, which resulted in the Uruguayan striker being shown the red card on his home debut.

Nunez became just the second Liverpool player to see red on his full debut, following Englishman Joe Cole, who was sent off in 2010 for a late challenge on Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny.

And, while Liverpool battled back for a draw in this instance, some fans were left less than happy, something that they inexplicably aimed towards Andersen.

Andersen showcases death threats

Taking to Instagram, the Crystal Palace defender explained that he had received 3-400 death threats after the game, before posting a handful and urging the Premier League to take action over the issue.

It is certainly not the first time that footballers have been subjected to abuse after performances, with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all subject to racist abuse after missing penalties in the EURO2020 final shoot-out defeat to Italy at Wembley.
