Lyon head into their trip to the Stade de l’Aube against Troyes with eyes on nothing but a win as Laurent Blanc’s side now sit down in 10th and with them staring down the barrel of yet another season without European football unless things change.
For over a season now, it has been a struggle for Lyon. Not just have they watched the likes of Lens and Lorient move up the ranks, but they come into this one now knowing that they could be as low as 13th in the table if they lose and others around them win.
Last time out, Lyon drew 0-0 with Brest and this came just one week on from an away victory over Ajaccio. Blanc’s side now sit in the top half of the table on goals difference and they are one point adrift of Clermont Foot in ninth.
Troyes were hammered 4-1 by Toulouse in midweek and they now also have to deal with the fact they are above the relegation zone by just one point themselves. In fact, with an inferior goals difference too, Troyes could end up in 18th if Ajaccio and Strasbourg win while they lose.
Anything but a win for Lyon could spell disaster for Blanc.
