Arsenal are leading the race for Spanish superstar Gabri Veiga this summer, with the player himself preferring a switch to north London over anywhere else, it has been reported.

Veiga has broken onto the scene in La Liga this season, grabbing nine goals and four assists for a struggling Celta Vigo side, and has put his name firmly on the lips of elite clubs around Europe.

Mikel Arteta’s side are one of those, with Arsenal on the hunt for midfield additions this summer, and there is the opportunity to grab Veiga for as little as £36m this summer.

“Virtually every top club in Europe has been tracking Gabri Veiga,” CBS reporter Ben Jacobs explained.

“With Veiga contracted until 2026, Celta De Vigo’s position has been simple: pay the €40m release clause or there will be no summer transfer. However, as we saw with Enzo Fernandez’s move to Chelsea from Benfica, a club stance can be tested by a large offer with a different type of payment structure.

Real Madrid were thought to be keen on the midfielder, but a mega-move for Jude Bellingham being agreed has all but ended their interest in the Spaniard.

Any move for the Spaniard would likely spell the end for Emile Smith Rowe, who has become a fringe player under Arteta this season and was an unused substitute against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

It would also, in all probability, end their pursuit of Chelsea’s Mason Mount, who would occupy the same role as Veiga.

Having changed agents to join superagent Pini Zahavi last month, Veiga’s priority this summer is clear, and he could just find himself in north London come the beginning of next season.
