Premier League outfit Arsenal have, on Thursday, confirmed a fresh departure from Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The latest player to have taken his talents elsewhere with a view to more consistent game time? Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
The summer, to date, had of course seen Maitland-Niles widely tipped for a fresh Emirates exit.
This came with the versatile midfielder having slipped some way down the pecking order on the red half of north London, on the back of a disappointing six-month spell in Italy with Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.
Nevertheless, Premier League interest in his signature remained, with AMN still held in high regard amongst many circles in English football.
In turn, late on Thursday night, it has come as little surprise to hear of Maitland-Niles securing his 3rd loan move in the space of two years.
As per an official statement across Arsenal’s social media platforms:
‘Ainsley Maitland-Niles has joined Southampton on a season-long loan.’
The deal, it is understood, also features an option to buy for the Saints in the summer of 2023, for a hitherto undisclosed fee.
All the best this season, Ainsley 👊
