Arsenal’s hopes of signing Marco Asensio from Real Madrid have been dealt a huge blow as the Spanish star is expected to renew his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Arsenal have been linked with Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio for some time now.
Asensio has struggled for regular minutes since Carlo Ancelotti’s return to Real Madrid.
The Spaniard has completed 90 minutes in La Liga on just four occasions so far this season.
However, he has still been able to chip in with six goals and four assists in the competition.
And with Asensio out of contract in Madrid this summer, his future was being called into question.
As per The Athletic, Asensio has been in negotiations with Real Madrid over a new deal since the start of the year and has had a proposal on the table to extend his current contract, which now looks likely to be signed.
All that is left to sort out before pen can be put to paper is the length of the contract.
The report adds that Carlo Ancelotti is said to have been a big voice in getting the deal done.
