The hopes of Serie A champions AC Milan of booking their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League were this evening afforded a timely boost.
The Rossoneri, of course, are currently at the halfway point of their Last-16 tie in Europe’s most high-profile European club competition.
And Stefano Pioli’s troops are in possession of the advantage, too, owing to a hard-fought 1-0 downing of Tottenham Hotspur at San Siro.

After seeing Spurs subsequently bounce back courtesy of impressive wins over capital rivals West Ham and Chelsea, though, all associated with Milan are no doubt fully aware of the test which lies in wait in north London in a little over a week’s time.
In turn, on Sunday, it came as a timely boost when not one, but two members of Pioli’s squad marked their returns to the pitch.
En route to a two-goal triumph over Atalanta, first, star shot-stopper Mike Maignan took his place back between the posts, marking his comeback with a clean sheet.
