Match preview

LAFC look simply unstoppable right now.

On Saturday night, the Black and Gold enjoyed their biggest victory for almost two years, hammering Charlotte FC 5-0 at Banc of California Stadium.

Jesús Murillo, José Cifuentes, Carlos Vela and Cristian Arango all on target, the latter scoring his 15th of the season.

This victory means Steve Cherundolo’s side have won six successive matches, as well as ten of their last 12.

So, LAFC now have 54 points on the board after 24 matches, the second-best record in MLS history, one point behind their own record set in 2019, lifting the Supporters’ Shield back then.

They’ve also scored in 38 successive regular season matches, but are still 26 behind D.C. United’s league record set in the late-90s.

D.C. United meanwhile make the long 2,300 mile cross-county journey now rock bottom of the overall standings.

At the weekend, the Black-and-Red were beaten 1-0 in Foxborough by New England Revolution.

So, since Wayne Rooney won his first match in charge against Orlando, D.C. have added just one more point from three outings.

The capital club look almost certain to not qualify for the play-offs for a third season running.

Anything other than an emphatic home victory at Banc of California Stadium would be a huge shock.
