The latest edition of one of English football’s fiercest rivalries, of course, is set to play out as part of the upcoming round of Premier League fixtures.
The clash in question will see the red and blue halves of the Merseyside divide lock horns once more, in a showdown between Liverpool and Everton.

Another to have lined out for Liverpool before later swapping red for blue on the river Mersey, Don Hutchison racked up 45 appearances for the former, across a four-year stint early in the 1990s.
After ensuing stints with both West Ham and Sheffield United, the Scot went on to put pen to paper on terms at Goodison Park, where his Liverpool past did not prevent Hutchison from establishing himself as something of a fan favourite.
Abel Xavier – Everton (1999-2002), Liverpool (2002-03)
A record-holding inclusion, Abel Xavier remains to this day the only player to have featured for both clubs in the Merseyside Derby in the very same season.
This comes after the Portuguese made the move directly from Everton to Liverpool during the January window in the 2001/02 campaign.
Nick Barmby – Everton (1996-2000), Liverpool (2000-02)
Winger Nick Barmby is another to boast a special place in the history of the Merseyside Derby, after making headlines in becoming the first player to make the move from Everton to Liverpool for over four decades back in 2000.
Not only that, but he went on to find the net against the Toffees just two months into his debut Reds campaign.
Sander Westerveld – Liverpool (1999-2001), Everton (2006)
Another inclusion with an interesting story to tell, goalkeeper Sander Westerveld was shown a red card on his Merseyside Derby debut whilst lining out for Liverpool.
This, however, didn’t stop Everton from bringing the Dutchman in on a temporary basis years later, when Sanderveld enjoyed an altogether unmemorable 28-day emergency loan spell at Goodison, owing to a crisis between the posts.
David Burrows – Liverpool (1988–1993), Everton (1994-95)
Just sneaking in when it comes to eligibility on this list after featuring for Liverpool in the inaugural Premier League campaign, defender David Burrows enjoyed a fruitful time at Anfield between 1988 and 1993.
His ensuing spell with Everton proved altogether less noteworthy, but Burrows may well be remembered fondly by long-time members of the Blues faithful, after featuring in two of the club’s fixtures en route to FA Cup glory in 1995.
Andy Lonergan – Liverpool (2019-20), Everton (2021-)
Last up, shot-stopper Andy Lonergan boasts the unwanted title of the only player to ever sign for both Liverpool and Everton, before failing to make a single Premier League appearance for either club.
Afforded a league winner’s medal by Jurgen Klopp despite not technically being eligible, the former Republic of Ireland youth international did catch headlines, though, in joining forces with another ex-Red – in Rafael Benitez – at Goodison Park back in 2021.
