Match preview

Two of MLS’ longest-serving clubs go head-to-head in Foxborough, both with work to do if they’re to gatecrash the play-offs.

Chicago Fire have only featured in the post season once in the last nine seasons, this coming in 2017 when they were hammered in round one.

So, remarkably, the Fire haven’t win a post-season fixture since ousting New England in the Conference semi-finals way back in 2009.

This fact isn’t likely to change anytime soon with Ezra Hendrickson’s team 13th in the east, six points below the play-off line.

On Saturday, Chicago were beaten 2-0 by CF Montréal at Solider Field, meaning they’ve now lost three-in-a-row.

Before this, they’d actually accumulated 13 points from five games but, baring a similar out of the blue upturn, the Fire will miss the play-offs…….. again.

Bruce Arena’s team have also lost-back-to-back matches, following Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to LA Galaxy.

Overall, the Revs have won just two of their last 11 games, requiring a vast upturn in results.

Who will claim a rare and much-needed victory in Boston?
