Martinelli joined Arsenal in July of 2019. The Gunners are understood to have paid just over £6m for the Brazilian.
And Martinelli proved one of Arsenal’s bright sparks during his debut 2019/20 season.
The 21-year-old scored 10 and assisted four across 26 outings for the club, including a stunning individual effort vs Chelsea in the Premier League.
However, the Brazilian’s campaign was brought to a premature end when he suffered a knee injury, which also saw him miss the start of 2020/21.
Martinelli eventually returned to action midway through last season but didn’t really rediscover the form he found during the early days of his Arsenal career.
2022/23, though, has seen Martinelli develop into a crucial asset for Arsenal. He has scored four and assisted two in 10 league games.
“I don’t think he’s good enough for Real Madrid yet,” Gallas said. “In football after two or three games, everyone is raving about that player, ‘he’s magnificent’ or ‘he’s a top-class player’ but no, calm down, let him have a great season to get to another level. He’s still young, he’s only 21. But if he goes step-by-step, he can go to a club like Real Madrid but right now he’s not ready.
“I think Arsenal have to get that deal with Martinelli signed as quickly as possible. I’m sure he’s hearing so many things about him, like Real Madrid being interested. Sometimes the player can be confused. At the moment I think he’s playing well and Arsenal have to close that deal as soon as possible so he feels better in his mind.’’
