Arsenal are closing in on their second departure of the summer days after Mikel Arteta labelled his squad ‘unsustainable’, with Auston Trusty in talks over a move to Premier League newcomers Sheffield United.
The Gunners have bought in three players already this summer in the form of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber. They are also linked with a move for Brentford shot-stopper David Raya in a deal that would take their spending close to £250m should it materialise.
But sales have been harder to navigate. So far, only Granit Xhaka has departed the club, though Pablo Mari has also left thanks to a clause in his contract that left Monza obliged to sign him after a loan spell with the Serie A side.
There are plenty waiting in the departures lounge in north London, with all of Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nicolas Pepe left out of the tour of the USA and expected to be moved on before the end of the transfer window on September 1st.
But it is impressive loanee Auston Trusty that seems set to be the next man to depart north London, with various reports claiming that a deal to take the USMNT defender to returning Premier League side Sheffield United is being discussed.
Having spent a successful year on loan with Birmingham City last season, Trusty played just 40 minutes in pre-season despite being a part of Arteta’s 29-man squad, and is not thought to be in the Spaniard’s plans longer term.
