West Ham United’s summer looks set to finally heat up at the London Stadium entrance, but the Hammers are still being stripped of assets in the other direction as Italian international striker Gianluca Scamacca completes his move to Serie A outfit Atalanta.
Per Fabrizio Romano, the 24-year-old former Sassuolo ace has returned to Italy after a torrid spell in the English capital with West Ham during a 2022-23 campaign that saw him severely hampered by injury and a failure to truly settle in London.

West Ham has received €25m+€5m in potential add-ons for the Rome-born frontman and is now likely to be in the market for another center-forward before the conclusion of the summer transfer window.
Scamacca bagged 16 goals in Serie A the season before his Premier League arrival, with Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini hopeful of getting a similar tune out of the international after La Dea has moved quickly to replace Danish starlet Rasmus Højlund in the wake of his big-money move to Manchester United.
This could now open up an avenue for West Ham to rekindle interest in Arsenal starlet Folarin Balogun, who looks all but guaranteed to leave the Emirates this summer despite interested clubs having failed to field bids commensurate to what Arsenal deem an acceptable offer for the United States international.
At current, both of West Ham’s center-forwards under David Moyes – Michail Antonio and Danny Ings – are on the wrong side of thirty. But with the Hammers having completed a deal for Ajax midfielder Édson Álvarez while also being linked with a double swoop for Manchester United pair Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay, there is likely to be little – if any – of the money remaining after the record sale of former club captain Declan Rice to Arsenal.
