Premier League leaders Arsenal have, according to widespread reports, been dealt a late blow on the personnel front, ahead of the club’s showdown with Southampton.
Mikel Arteta’s troops, of course, are set to return to action in short order.
Amid ongoing efforts to stave off the pursuit of champions Manchester City, the Gunners will welcome basement dwellers Southampton to The Emirates, for a Premier League clash.
Arsenal are primed to enter proceedings nothing short of desperate for a bounce-back result, after surrendering two-goal leads in each of their last two outings, against Liverpool and West Ham United respectively.
With less than two hours remaining ahead of kick-off in north London, however, as alluded to above, word has surfaced online that such efforts on the part of the capital giants are set to come with a key member of Arteta’s ranks unavailable for selection.
The player in question? Granit Xhaka.
An update on the situation, and the reasoning behind his absence, in turn, is likely to be forthcoming imminently.
No Xhaka
