Arsenal have been handed a massive boost as it has emerged that centre-back Gabriel is back in full training after an injury scare while on international duty.
The centre-back made his long-awaited Brazil debut during a 5-1 thrashing of Bolivia, helping his side get off to the perfect start in their World Cup qualifying efforts for the 2026 tournament.
But he was taken off in the final minutes and was later seen among the Selecao substitutes with an ice pack on his thigh, sparking injury fears over the Gunners defender.
After his Brazil debut, Gabriel failed to mention his injury as he posted on Instagram: “Only God knows how much I’ve waited for this moment! So happy for the debut and the big win. Thank you Belem do Para for the incredible energy. Come on Brazil.”
Now however, an update has been forthcoming.
As per journalist Charles Watts, the 25-year-old took part in full training with the rest of his Brazilian squadmates, and reports from Brazil ‘suggest that scans on the thigh problem he suffered against Bolivia showed no sign of any injury’, with the defender set to be handed a second consecutive start in Tuesday’s clash with Peru.
However, he returned to partner William Saliba for the 3-1 win over Manchester United, and his quick thinking was vital in Arsenal gaining all three points as he leant to play Alejandro Garnacho offside as United had what they thought was a winner ruled out.
He is expected to keep his place in the side for the trip to Everton after the international break, and could well be reunited with Oleksandr Zinchenko down the left hand side, with the Ukrainian having returned from injury.
