Will Toronto FC’s Italian revolution continue?
On Saturday, the Reds beat Portland 3-1 at BMO Field with in form Jonathan Osorio scoring, before the two new Italian superstars, Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi, both netted.
Insigne has now scored in back-to-back games, while Bernardeschi has now scored three in four.
So, since both debuted against Charlotte FC on 23 June, TFC have accumulated ten points from four matches.
Before this, Bob Bradley’s team had accumulated a measly 19 points from 21 outings.
So, the Canadian club are still 12th in the Eastern Conference, but are only four points below the play-off line.
At the weekend, Carlos Gil was the only scorer as the Revs beat bottom of the table D.C. United 1-0 in Foxborough.
This should be no surprise, given that New England are now unbeaten in 12 meetings with D.C. in Boston, dating back to 2013.
More importantly, that’s now back-to-back wins for Bruce Arena’s men, who were winless in six beforehand.
Can the Revs halt Toronto’s serge up the table?
