Premier League minnows AFC Bournemouth’s summer rebranding continues to roll on in the wake of escaping relegation in 2022-23 as the Cherries pipped one of the continent’s most storied clubs to the signature of highly-touted left-back Milos Kerkez.

The 19-year-old full Hungarian international is coming off an exceptional first senior season with Dutch development house AZ Alkmaar while showing himself to be one of the most lethal young full-backs anywhere on the continent.

Per confirmed reports from football insider Fabrizio Romano, Bournemouth stole a march on Portuguese giants SL Benfica in the eleventh hour after the Vrbas-born left-back seemed to be on his way to Lisbon, but the Cherries, under new management in the vein of Andoni Iraola, successfully hijacked the move in a real transfer coup in a deal that will cost just £15.5m.

Kerkez, who was featured as part of our running series Ones to Watch in 2022-23, has agreed to personal terms with Bournemouth, while the Cherries have come to terms with AZ over the fee, with his medical set to be completed this week.

The former AC Milan academy attendee, who featured on 52 occasions for De Kaasboeren across all competitions in 2022-23 while scoring five goals along the way, profiles as an exceptionally talented attacking full-back capable both in a back four as well as a wing-back in a back three deployment.

He becomes the fourth signing this summer at the Vitality Stadium under Iraola, joining Bournemouth’s full move for Hamed Traoré, Romain Faivre, and Justin Kluivert while showing the club’s commitment to securing bright young talents dating back to last season that also included moves for Dango Ouattara, Antoine Semenyo, and Ilya Zabarnyi.
