The future of Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has been cast into doubt over the last several months.
This comes with the Belgian out of contract in 2023 and seemingly not eager to put pen to paper on a fresh deal.
Reports earlier this year claimed that Arsenal have identified the 25-year-old as one of their top targets as Mikel Arteta plots another big summer in the transfer market, with Tielemans’ lack of a new deal sparking interest from several clubs, including Arsenal.
Arteta was also said to be eyeing a left-footed midfielder who can operate as an eight on the left of a three, which Tielemans can.
But with just over a week of the summer window left, it does not appear as though Arsenal are in any real rush to sign Tielemans.
One report even suggested Arsenal would be happy to wait until next summer in order to sign the Belgian on a free transfer.
Leicester City faced off with Southampton on Saturday afternoon, losing the clash 2-1.
Youri Tielemans did not start the game, but did come off the bench late on.
Following the match, Brendan Rodgers appeared to suggested that Tielemans did not start the game because he was not in the right frame of mind, likely because of his future being up in the air:
“I mentioned in the week, we’re coming into a Premier League game and maybe we’ve got players who are maybe not quite in the right frame of mind,” the Northern Irish tactician said.
“You can’t carry them, or certainly we can’t. So yeah, that’s the reason for the changes.”
