Match Preview

Bournemouth will welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Vitality Stadium this weekend with the Cherries now without a manager after the sacking of Scott Parker coming two days after the 9-0 loss to Liverpool.

That game registered Bournemouth’s worst-ever top flight result and equalled the record for the biggest defeat in Premier League history in the process. The sacking of Parker is a bit harsh in some ways, as a lower-scoring defeat would have likely kept him in the job with them still winning a game so far.

Nevertheless, he is gone, and the former Fulham manager leaves Bournemouth down in 17th and out of the relegation zone simply because they managed to beat Aston Villa on the opening day of the season, just as Wolves, Everton and Leicester City remain winless.

As for Wolves, their winless start to the new season carried on after drawing to Newcastle United late on at Molineux. It marks the second game this season in which Bruno Lage’s men have led the game and gone on to drop points after previously leading Leeds United on the opening weekend with a goal from Daniel Podence.

Lage is now under great pressure with just two goals all season long and four conceded. In fact, in some ways, he’s lucky to be at the helm of his respective club, given how Parker was sacked by Bournemouth with more points and goals on the board.

Wolves will be confident in winning here, however, with the Cherries looking down the barrel of a long and tiresome season already.
