Match preview

At the start of the season, only a very brave person would’ve predicted that, on 6 March, West London’s top two teams would be Brentford and Fulham.

Of the two, it’s Fulham who are two points and two places better off, albeit having played two games more.

In their last league fixture, ten days ago now, the Cottagers held Wolves to a 1-1 draw, thanks to Manor Solomon’s stunning late equaliser.

Marco Silva’s side have now accumulated 20 points from ten post-World Cup matches, losing just two of them.

Then, on Tuesday night, Fulham reached the FA Cup quarter-finals for the first time since 2010, beating Leeds 2-0 at Craven Cottage.

João Palhinha breaking the deadlock with a thunderbolt, before Solomon scored, pretty much, the exact same goal for the fourth game in a row.

Back in the Premier League, can the Whites boost their chances of a return to Europe, against a fellow contender for a top seven spot?

As for Brentford, this’ll be their first game for 16 days; last Sunday’s trip to Man United was postponed due to the League Cup Final.

When they were last in action, the Bees’ maintained their unbeaten run thanks to Vitaly Janelt’s 95th minute equaliser at home to Crystal Palace.

Thus, Thomas Frank’s team are currently enjoying the longest unbeaten streak in the division, 11 games to be exact, three short of the club-record set in the mid-1930s.

Back in August, Fulham beat their local-rivals 3-2 at the Cottage, thanks to Aleksandar Mitrović’s last-gasp header.

This time, can the Bees make home advantage count under the Monday night lights at the Brentford Community Stadium?

Brentford team news

Ivan Toney is reportedly set for a lengthy ban, having breached the FA’s betting rules, but, for now, is still available to play.

Vitaly Janelt stoppage time equaliser against Crystal Palace could see him return to midfield.

Aside from that, Thomas Frank’s team isn’t likely to change very much.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Raya; Hickey, Pinnock, Mee, Henry; Nørgaard, Janelt, Jensen; Mbuemo, Wissa, Toney.

Fulham team news

For Fulham, the main news is that star midfield João Palhinha is the first player in the Premier League to reach ten yellow cards this season.

Thus, he’ll be suspended for this one, as well as Sunday’s clash with league-leaders Arsenal.

In better news, Harrison Reed, who hobbled off against Wolves, isn’t badly injured, so will start alongside Saša Lukić.

Having scored in four successive matches, Manor Solomon has surely earned a start, with either Willian or Bobby Decordova-Reid missing out.

Aleksandar Mitrović sat out back-to-back league games with a knock but, having managed 70 minutes against Leeds on Tuesday, the man who got the winner in the reverse fixture will lead the line here.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Leno; Tete, Diop, Ream, Robinson; Lukić, Reed, Decordova-Reid, Pereira, Solomon; Mitrović.
